CMP Conclave 2010

Last month I had the privilege of attending the 2010 CMP Conclave in Baltimore, at the beautiful Baltimore Hilton. Although I’m not in the business of plugging cities for convention business (I’ll leave that to the CVBs), the downtown and Inner Harbor area are well worth a visit. This year’s Conclave brought record attendance, with 450 Certified Meeting Professionals gathering over the weekend of July 17-20 to discuss the latest industry trends.

A packed schedule kept participants busy from the moment we arrived on Saturday, beginning with a “First Timers Orientation”, attended by more than one hundred CMPs.

Fourth Annual Golf Tournament Raises $8,000 for Charity

 Thank you to everyone who participated and donated!
MPI NENY held its 4th annual Golf Tournament at Saratoga National Golf Club this summer. The event attracted more than 120 golfers.  Laura Petrovic, director of sales of the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, chaired the event. “We are very fortunate that so many meeting and event planners as well as hospitality partners from around the state generously supported the event, despite the state of the economy,” said Petrovic.

Dear Members: Doug McPhee

We’re in the midst of summer and it has been unusually hot. I have been on business travel in Dallas, Atlanta, and Orlando and by all reports it’s been just as hot in the capital region. I hope you are enjoying a vacation or at least a long weekend or two during this great time of year.

Business in the hospitality industry is picking up for 2011 and 2012. Though there is still more business to be booked in 2010, I am hopeful that business will continue to grow back over the next few months. My biggest client does eight institutes in the summer. They projected 17,500 attendees and have actually gone over 19,000. Needless to say they are happy and I believe it is an indication that we are seeing an uptick that will only grow.
